A before/after only works if both shots line up and the result looks good where you post it. Load two images, let the tool align them, style the divider and labels, then export a still, a side-by-side, or an animated wipe sized for Instagram, LinkedIn or a slide deck.

Overview
Two photos taken a few seconds apart rarely match exactly. The camera moved slightly, or one version was cropped during editing, and when you slide between them the image appears to jump. Auto-align fixes this. It reduces both images to small copies, works out where the edges are, and tries every shift up to 12% of the frame and every scale change up to ±10% in 2% steps, keeping whichever matches best. Edges barely change when you adjust brightness, colour or contrast, so this still works on retouched or graded pairs. You can then fine-tune the shift and scale numerically.
When the two images have different sizes or proportions, the after image is mapped onto the before image's frame. Fill crops it to cover the frame, Fit letterboxes it, and Stretch forces it to the same size. The slider can run left/right or top/bottom. Labels come in dark or light pill styles or plain shadowed text, can sit at the top, bottom, left or right, and scale with the output size. You can also set the divider colour and width, show or hide the round handle, and choose the background colour used for letterboxing.
Exports use the same renderer as the preview, so what you see is what you get. Split image saves a PNG cut at the current slider position. Side by side and Stacked place the two versions next to each other or one above the other, each with its own label. For motion, the animated wipe sweeps from before to after and back with smooth easing over 2–8 seconds. It's saved as a GIF encoded in the page with one shared 256-colour palette, or as an H.264 MP4 encoded by ffmpeg (WebAssembly, a one-time download of about 31 MB).
Every export can be sized for where it will appear: the original size, a 1080 × 1080 square, a 1200 × 628 link preview for Facebook, LinkedIn and X, a 1080 × 1350 portrait post, a 1080 × 1920 story or Reel, or 1920 × 1080 for YouTube and slides. Crop to fill fills the whole canvas, and Fit with background keeps the entire image on a coloured background. Unlike a diffing tool, this one is built for presentation: it creates images to share, not measurements of differences.
| Export | Format | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Split at slider | PNG | Single post, thumbnails, blog images |
| Side by side | PNG | Landscape layouts, slides, documentation |
| Stacked | PNG | Phone-first feeds and stories |
| Wipe GIF | GIF, 15 fps | Websites, email, chat where video won't autoplay |
| Wipe MP4 | H.264, 30 fps | Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts |
Drop the before and after images. You can drop both at once; the first becomes before.
If the shots don't line up, press Auto-align, then nudge the shift and scale if needed.
Choose a left/right or top/bottom slider, edit the labels and pick a label style.
Pick an output size, such as 1080 square or 1200 × 628, and drag the divider to the position you want.
Export a split PNG, a side-by-side or stacked PNG, or an animated wipe as GIF or MP4.
Use cases
Show a client exactly what your colour grade, skin retouch or restoration achieved with a wipe GIF on your website, or a split image for Instagram at 1080 × 1350.
Line up the before and after photos of a kitchen, a lawn or a car interior taken from roughly the same spot, label them, and post a 1200 × 628 comparison on Facebook or LinkedIn.
Compare an old and new screenshot of a website or app with a top/bottom split for a changelog, a release note or a pitch deck at 1920 × 1080.
Present progress photos side by side with clear labels and a consistent frame. Everything is processed locally, so sensitive personal photos are never uploaded.
Pro tips
Answers to common questions about the before / after viewer.
Image Compare is for analysis: it computes pixel differences, PSNR and diff overlays. This viewer is for presentation: it aligns two images, styles the slider and labels, and exports shareable stills and animations at social media sizes.
It turns small copies of both images into edge maps and searches for the shift (up to 12% of the width or height) and scale (90–110%) where the edges overlap best. Edges don't change much when you adjust exposure or colour, so the match holds even after heavy editing.
GIF stores at most 256 colours per frame and compresses smooth gradients poorly. Reduce the width or the duration, or export MP4, which is usually much smaller at better quality.
Yes. Choose the 1080 × 1350 portrait or 1080 × 1920 story size and export MP4. The file is H.264 at 30 fps with the moov atom at the front, which suits social apps and messaging.
No. The after image is mapped onto the before image's frame with fill, fit or stretch, and the export is scaled to the output size you choose.
