Most clips are too long at one end or the other. Drop in a video, drag the start and end handles over the thumbnail strip or type exact times, and download just the part you want. The file never leaves your device.

Overview
Trimming keeps a continuous section of a video and discards everything before and after it. The trimmer shows a strip of thumbnails across the whole clip, with two handles you can drag, nudge with the arrow keys (Shift for one-second steps) or set from the current playhead position. If you know the times you want, type them directly, for example 0:12.50, and the selected length updates as you go.
There are two cut modes. Fast mode copies the existing video and audio data without re-encoding, so it finishes almost instantly and loses no quality at all. The catch is that compressed video can only start cleanly on a keyframe, so a fast cut snaps to the nearest one, which is usually within a second or two of where you clicked. Precise mode re-encodes the selection to H.264, so the cut lands on the exact frame. It takes longer, and the time depends on the length of the selection and the speed of your computer.
The processing is done by FFmpeg, the same open-source engine used by professional video software, compiled to WebAssembly so it runs inside your browser. The first time you trim, your browser downloads the engine (about 31 MB). After that it is cached, so later trims start immediately and even work offline. Your video is read directly from disk instead of being copied into memory, which keeps large files manageable.
Fast cuts keep the original container (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV), video codec and audio track. Precise cuts produce an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio at a visually transparent quality setting, ready for social media, messaging apps and editors.
| Fast | Precise | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Near-instant | Depends on clip length and CPU |
| Quality | Lossless (stream copy) | High (H.264 CRF 20) |
| Cut accuracy | Nearest keyframe | Exact frame |
| Output format | Same as input | MP4 |
| Best for | Quick cuts, long files | Exact timing, social clips |
Drop a video into the trimmer or click to browse your device.
Drag the start and end handles on the thumbnail strip, or play the video and use Set start / Set end at the playhead.
Fine-tune with the time fields, typing values such as 0:12.50.
Choose Fast (instant, lossless) or Precise (frame-accurate).
Click Trim video, preview the result and download it.
Use cases
Cut the best few seconds out of a longer recording for Instagram, TikTok or X. Fast mode makes it instant, so you can try different cuts quickly.
Trim the fumbling at the start and the reach for the stop button at the end of screen recordings, tutorials and webinars before sharing them.
A shorter clip is a smaller file. Trimming a two-minute phone video to the 20 seconds that matter often gets it under messaging and email limits without any recompression.
Pull just the usable takes out of long camera files so your editing project stays light and your drive stays tidy.
Pro tips
Answers to common questions about the video trimmer.
Not in Fast mode, which copies the original video and audio data unchanged. Precise mode re-encodes the selection at a high quality setting (H.264, CRF 20), which is visually transparent for most footage.
Compressed video can only begin cleanly on a keyframe, so fast cuts snap to the nearest one. If you need the cut on an exact frame, use Precise mode.
Fast cuts usually finish in a second or two, whatever the length. Precise cuts re-encode the selected part, which runs at roughly real time or slower in a browser, depending on resolution and your computer.
There's no fixed limit. The video is read directly from your disk instead of being loaded into memory, so files of several hundred megabytes work on most computers. Very large 4K files may be slow or run out of browser memory on low-end devices.
The first trim downloads the FFmpeg video engine (about 31 MB). It's stored in your browser afterwards, so later trims start immediately, even offline.
No. ToolEnhancer processes files on your own device inside the browser. They are never sent to, stored on or seen by our servers.
