Guide

Picking an output format

Convert to JPG for maximum compatibility with photos, PNG when you need lossless quality or transparency, and WebP or AVIF for the smallest files on the web. When converting a transparent PNG to JPG, choose a background colour, because JPG cannot store transparency.

Conversions between lossy formats, for example JPG to WebP, re-encode the image. Use a high quality setting (85–90) if you plan to edit the result further.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about how to convert files.

Will converting reduce quality?

Converting to a lossless format such as PNG keeps every pixel. Converting to a lossy format such as JPG, WebP or AVIF applies compression, which is controlled by the quality slider.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Drop multiple images into the converter and download them all as a ZIP.

Can I convert iPhone HEIC photos?

If your browser can display HEIC (Safari can), the converter can turn it into JPG, PNG or WebP. A dedicated HEIC converter for all browsers is planned.
