Three playful effects in one place. Reverse plays a moment backwards, Boomerang plays it forwards and then back for a seamless bounce, and Loop repeats a clip two to ten times. Select the part you want on the timeline and the rest happens in your browser.

Overview
Start by choosing an effect. Reverse plays the selected part backwards, sound included. Boomerang plays it forwards and then immediately backwards, so the end joins the start and the clip loops seamlessly — the effect made popular on Instagram. Loop repeats the selection between two and ten times (three by default). A thumbnail timeline with start and end handles, Set start and Set end buttons, and typed times lets you pick the exact moment. For Reverse and Boomerang the selection starts as the first ten seconds; for Loop it starts as the whole video.
Reversing is memory-hungry. Video is compressed forwards, with each frame depending on earlier ones, so FFmpeg has to decode the whole selection and keep every frame in memory before it can write the last one first. The tool estimates that frame buffer as you change the selection: a 5-second 720p clip needs a few hundred megabytes, while 30 seconds of 1080p runs to gigabytes. Selections over 30 seconds trigger a warning, and for sources larger than 720p a “Limit to 720p” option, on by default, downscales the frames first so the job fits comfortably in browser memory. One to five seconds of fast movement makes the best boomerang anyway.
Looping is much lighter. If you keep the whole video selected, it is repeated by stream copy: no re-encoding, no quality loss, and the original container is kept. If you select part of a video, that part is cut once with a frame-accurate re-encode to MP4, and the cut is then repeated by stream copy, so only the selection is ever encoded. Reverse and Boomerang results are saved as H.264 MP4 with AAC audio. In every mode you can mute the sound, which is common for boomerangs because reversed speech and music sound odd.
All processing runs locally with FFmpeg 5.1 compiled to WebAssembly. The engine downloads once (about 31 MB) and is then cached, and your video is read directly from disk rather than uploaded. Short boomerangs finish in seconds on most computers; longer reversals at full resolution can take minutes or run out of memory on low-end devices.
| Reverse | Boomerang | Loop | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Output length | Same as selection | 2× selection | Selection × repeats |
| Re-encoding | Yes | Yes | Only for a partial selection |
| Memory use | High | High | Low |
| Output format | MP4 | MP4 | Original container or MP4 |
| Best for | Rewind effects | Social loops | Repeats, backdrops |
Drop a short video into the tool.
Choose Reverse, Boomerang or Loop, and for Loop set the number of repeats.
Drag the handles on the timeline, or use Set start and Set end, to select the moment.
Optionally mute the audio or limit the resolution to 720p.
Click the button to create the clip, then download it.
Use cases
Select two or three seconds of a toast, a jump or a splash and turn it into a back-and-forth loop that plays smoothly on repeat.
Reverse a spill, a dive or a demolished tower of blocks for an “undo” moment, then drop the clip into a longer edit.
Repeat a short ambient clip ten times for a presentation backdrop, shop screen or livestream holding scene, without any loss in quality.
Loop a single dance move, guitar riff or exercise rep several times so it can be watched over and over without scrubbing.
Pro tips
Answers to common questions about the reverse / loop.
To play video backwards, every decoded frame of the selection has to be held in memory first. Uncompressed frames are large, so long or high-resolution selections can exhaust the browser's memory. The tool shows an estimate and warns above 30 seconds.
Reverse plays the selection backwards only. Boomerang plays it forwards and then backwards in the same file, so it is twice as long and loops seamlessly because it ends where it started.
Not when the whole video is selected: it is repeated by stream copy with no re-encoding. If you loop part of a video, that part is cut once at a high quality setting, then repeated without further loss.
Yes, in Reverse and Boomerang the audio is reversed along with the picture. Because backwards speech and music sound strange, you can mute it with one switch.
If the source is larger than 720p, the “Limit to 720p” option downscales it first to save memory. Turn the option off to keep the full resolution, at the cost of much higher memory use.
No. ToolEnhancer processes files on your own device inside the browser. They are never sent to, stored on or seen by our servers.
Yes. The reverse / loop is free to use with no sign-up, no watermarks and no daily limits.
