iPhones save photos as HEIC, which Windows, many Android apps and most upload forms still refuse to open. Drop in a whole folder of .heic or .heif files and get standard JPG, PNG or WebP copies back, converted one by one on your own device.

Overview
HEIC is Apple’s name for HEIF images compressed with HEVC (H.265), the codec used for 4K video. iPhones have used it by default since iOS 11 because it stores a photo in roughly half the space of a comparable JPEG: a typical 12 MP shot is about 1.5–2.5 MB as HEIC versus 3–5 MB as JPEG. The container can also hold several images, depth maps and 10-bit colour, which is why it is more than just “a smaller JPEG”.
The catch is compatibility. HEVC is covered by patent licensing, so Chrome, Firefox and Edge don’t ship a HEIC decoder, Windows needs an extra codec extension, and many websites reject the format outright. This converter loads libheif, an open-source HEIF decoder compiled to WebAssembly, the first time you add a file. Each photo is decoded inside a background worker in your browser tab, drawn to a canvas and encoded as JPG, PNG or WebP. Files are processed one at a time, with a progress bar and a status on every row, so a large batch never freezes the page.
Pick the output to suit the job. JPG at 85–92% quality is the safe default for sharing and printing and opens everywhere. PNG is lossless, so nothing is lost, but expect files three to five times larger than the HEIC. WebP gives JPG-like compatibility on the web at a noticeably smaller size; because the decoder only writes JPG and PNG, WebP is produced from a lossless intermediate so there is no extra generation loss.
Some HEIC files hold more than one picture, such as bursts or edited images with a stored original. By default only the primary image is exported. Switch on “Export every image” and each one is saved as name-1.jpg, name-2.jpg and so on. If a file turns out to be a JPG or PNG with a .heic extension, it is simply re-encoded instead of failing, and damaged files get a clear error rather than a blank result.

Drop one or more .heic or .heif photos onto the page, or browse to select them.
Choose JPG, PNG or WebP as the output format.
Set the quality slider for JPG or WebP; around 90% keeps nearly all detail.
Turn on “Export every image” if your files contain bursts or multiple images.
Watch the progress bar, then download each photo or click Download all for a ZIP.
Use cases
Friends and coworkers on Windows PCs or older Android phones often see a blank icon instead of your photo. A JPG copy opens in every viewer, chat app and email client without extra codecs.
Visa portals, rental applications, marketplaces and many CMSs accept only JPG or PNG. Converting a batch first avoids the “unsupported file type” error halfway through a form.
Photo kiosks and online print shops overwhelmingly expect JPG. Converting at 90% or higher preserves enough detail for standard 4 × 6 and 5 × 7 in prints.
Export iPhone shots straight to WebP for a blog or online store. You skip the JPG step and get files that are typically 25–35% smaller at similar visual quality.
Pro tips
Answers to common questions about the heic to jpg.
The libheif decoder is about 1.3 MB of JavaScript and WebAssembly and is only downloaded when you add your first photo. After that it stays loaded, and each photo usually takes a second or two depending on its resolution and your device.
At the same file size, HEIC usually keeps more detail because HEVC is a more efficient codec. At high JPG quality the visible difference is small, but the JPG will be roughly twice as large.
Any switch from one lossy format to another re-encodes the pixels, so there is a small loss. At 90% JPG quality it isn’t visible in normal viewing. Choose PNG if you need a lossless copy.
No. The photo is re-drawn on a canvas, which doesn’t copy EXIF metadata, so GPS location, camera model and capture time are not in the output. That is handy for privacy, but keep the original HEIC if you need those details.
A Live Photo is a HEIC still plus a separate video file, so you get the still image. For files that contain several images, turn on “Export every image” to save each one as its own file.
The file may be incomplete, damaged during transfer, or use a HEIF variant the decoder can’t read. Try exporting it again from the Photos app or re-copying it from the phone.
