The classic meme format is simple: a recognizable picture, bold white capitals with a black outline at the top, and the punchline at the bottom. Open an image and those two captions are already there, ready for your text. Nothing is uploaded and no watermark is added.

Overview
Traditional image macros use Impact, a condensed bold typeface, in white capital letters with a thick black outline. The outline is what makes the format work. It keeps the text readable on any background, whether the photo is light, dark or busy. Text sits at the top and bottom edges, which leaves the middle of the image free for the subject. That is why the setup and the punchline are split: the eye reads the top line, looks at the picture, then lands on the bottom line.
As soon as you open an image, the generator adds TOP TEXT and BOTTOM TEXT captions in exactly that classic style: Impact, white, black outline and ALL CAPS. Type your own lines in the sidebar and they update on the picture as you go. You can add more captions for labeled or multi-panel memes, and drag, resize or rotate any caption directly on the image.
The classic look is only the default. Every caption can use a different font (ten are available, including Arial, Verdana and Georgia), size and colour, with its own outline width and colour, drop shadow, background box and caps setting. A dark font on a white background box at the top of the image, for example, recreates the caption-style memes common on X and Reddit, without needing a separate mode.
The meme is rendered on a canvas at the image’s full resolution and saved as JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF. JPG is the most widely accepted format for sharing, and PNG keeps the text edges crisp. Social apps and messengers recompress what you send, so a source image around 800–1200 px wide already looks as good as a much larger one after sharing, and it sends faster.
| Format | Text placement | Typical font | How to make it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Image macro | Top and bottom, over the image | Impact, white with black outline | Use the default captions |
| Caption meme | Text above the picture | Regular sans-serif, black | Dark text with a white background box at the top |
| Labeled meme | Small labels on parts of the image | Sans-serif with outline | Add captions, make them smaller and drag them onto objects |
| Multi-panel | Text per panel | Varies | One caption per panel on an image that already has panels |
Open the image you want to use. The TOP TEXT and BOTTOM TEXT captions appear automatically.
Type your own lines in the sidebar. They are capitalized in classic meme style.
Add more captions if you need labels or text for several panels.
Drag, resize or rotate captions on the image and adjust the font, size, colour, outline or shadow if needed.
Choose JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF and download your meme.
Use cases
Turn an inside joke into a meme for WhatsApp, Discord or Telegram in under a minute. The default captions are already styled, so all you have to do is type.
Creators and brands use relatable memes to get comments and shares on Instagram, X and LinkedIn. Since no watermark is added, the post looks like your own.
Lighten up a Slack update, a sprint retrospective or a release note with a meme about the week. Labeled captions are a good fit for “expectation vs reality” jokes.
A well-chosen meme makes a slide stick and breaks up dense material. Export as PNG for the cleanest text on a projector.
Pro tips
Answers to common questions about the meme generator.
Impact, in white capital letters with a black outline. The generator uses exactly that by default. If Impact isn’t installed on your device, the browser substitutes a similar bold fallback font.
No. The downloaded image contains only your picture and your text. There is no logo, link or signature.
Yes. Add as many captions as you need, then drag each one into place and resize or rotate it. This is how labeled memes and multi-panel formats are made.
No. The meme is exported as a still image in JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF format, so animation isn’t kept.
Around 800–1200 px wide works well. Social platforms recompress uploads, so larger images rarely look better after sharing, and they take longer to send.
No. ToolEnhancer processes files on your own device inside the browser. They are never sent to, stored on or seen by our servers.
Yes. The meme generator is free to use with no sign-up, no watermarks and no daily limits.
