A screenshot is often the fastest way to explain a problem, but raw captures usually need an arrow, a label or a hidden email address. Grab a screen, window or tab, or paste one from your clipboard, mark it up and copy the result straight into a chat or ticket.

Overview
Web pages can’t silently photograph your desktop, which is good for privacy. This tool uses getDisplayMedia, the same sharing prompt as video calls: you pick a screen, window or tab, one frame is grabbed at its real pixel size and sharing stops immediately. A 2560×1440 display gives a 2560×1440 screenshot. A delay of 3, 5 or 10 seconds lets you open a menu or hover a tooltip before the frame is taken. You can also paste an image with Ctrl+V or drop a PNG, JPG or WebP captured with your system’s own shortcut.
Annotations are editable objects until you export: arrows, lines, rectangles, ellipses, a translucent highlighter, a freehand pen, text labels with an optional solid background and numbered step markers that count up automatically. Select any item to move it, restyle it or delete it, nudge it with the arrow keys, and hold Shift for 45° arrows and perfect squares or circles. Undo and redo cover every change, including crops, with up to 100 steps.
Cropping is non-destructive. Drag the area to keep and the stage switches to it; switch back to the crop tool to see the whole capture again, recrop or reset, and your annotations stay where you put them. To hide private details, drag a pixelate, blur or solid-box region. These effects are baked into the exported pixels, so the original content under them is not in the saved file. For passwords and account numbers a solid box is the safe choice, because pixelated or lightly blurred short text can sometimes be reconstructed.
Screenshots are mostly flat colour and sharp text, which PNG compresses losslessly and efficiently, often to a few hundred kilobytes for a full-HD capture. JPG blurs text edges and is a poor choice for UI, while WebP is usually smaller than PNG and widely supported. Copy sends a PNG to the clipboard for pasting into Slack, Teams, email or an issue tracker.
| Content | Recommended format | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Text, code, UI | PNG | Lossless, keeps text crisp; flat colours compress well |
| Docs and websites | WebP | Usually smaller than PNG with wide support |
| Photos or video frames | JPG | Much smaller for photographic detail |
| Pasting into chat | Copy (PNG) | No file to save or attach |
Click Capture screen, window or tab and pick what to share, or paste or drop an existing screenshot.
Use the crop tool (C) to drag the area you want to keep.
Add arrows, boxes, highlights, text labels or numbered steps from the toolbar.
Drag a pixelate, blur or solid-box region over anything private.
Copy the result to the clipboard or download it as PNG, JPG or WebP.
Use cases
Capture the error dialog, box the message and drop numbered markers on the steps you clicked, so a support or engineering team understands the issue in seconds instead of asking follow-up questions.
Produce consistent annotated screenshots for a knowledge base or onboarding guide, with arrows pointing at the exact buttons readers need and text labels in the same style every time.
Cover email addresses, order numbers or customer names with solid boxes before posting a screenshot in a public forum, a team channel or a vendor’s support portal.
Pro tips
Answers to common questions about the screenshot tool.
Web pages aren’t allowed to see your screen without permission. The tool uses the standard sharing prompt, grabs one frame and stops sharing straight away; the browser’s sharing indicator disappears as soon as the frame is taken.
Yes. The capture uses the real pixel size of the shared surface, so a Retina or 4K display produces a correspondingly large image. Crop it, or export as WebP, if you need a smaller file.
Pixelation or light blur on short, predictable text such as numbers can sometimes be reversed by guessing. For anything sensitive use a solid box, which replaces those pixels completely in the exported image.
Yes, until you export. Use the select tool (V) to move an item, change its colour or size, or delete it; double-click text to edit the wording. Undo and redo work on every change.
No. Screen sharing only shows what is visible, so captures are limited to the current view. Most browsers’ developer tools include a full-page screenshot command you can paste in here to annotate.
No. ToolEnhancer processes files on your own device inside the browser. They are never sent to, stored on or seen by our servers.
Yes. The screenshot tool is free to use with no sign-up, no watermarks and no daily limits.
